These laptops are still steeply discounted for Black Friday — many are over $400 off These laptops are still steeply discounted for Black Friday — many are over $400 off. Black Friday is something that has gone from a day to two; it’s now a week-long long, but usually, Black Friday is when most devices are at their lowest prices.
So in this video, we’re going to take a look at what’s on sale right now because that’s usually where the lowest prices on these devices are for the rest of the year.
So we’re going to do it by category, and the first category is going to be NAS hard drives. So, this is the largest NAS hard drive that you can realistically buy,
But this is the best price you’re going to find for it. So, you’re looking at around $16 per terabyte. Now, you need to make sure that the device you’re reusing is.
Supports that size hard drive. If you don’t want something that big, this 16-terabyte Iron Wolf Pro drive is currently around $1875 per terabyte,
which is a pretty good deal. There really aren't any other good deals on terabyte NAS hard drives. So, these are the best you can find based on the drive itself as well as the price.
Next up is going to be NVME SSDs. And generally, I'm only going to recommend one of those because I use it in my Proxmox hypervisor. Use it for VM storage.
So, these are pretty broad in what you can use them for. You can use them on a PC. You can use them as a NAS device.
You can use them as a boot drive. The prices aren't usually that bad, especially for a 4 TBTE drive, but depending.
On what you want to use it for, one is going to be better than the other. The price is better than the 980 Pro, which I have a bunch of. So, that's what
I'm going to go with. So, going to switch to NAS devices. In the most recent Synology DSM release, those hard drive restrictions have been removed. The DS925 Plus is a generally pre-built NAS device.
That you can buy if you take the operating system into account. Honestly, the biggest problem with it is that Synology might change the hard drive restrictions again.
Then, at some point, you will have a situation where you need to use a Synology-branded hard drive. I don’t think that’s going to happen, but it’s possible.
I’ve just started testing this device for a future review, and overall, I have nothing bad to say about it. So, if you’re in the market,
The Synology NAS is a great buy at this price point, especially because of the DSM operating system. If you’re not interested in Synology devices, you can check out the UGrain devices.
I’ve been very happy with the UGrain operating system over time. I didn’t like it at first. It’s improved a lot, though. And overall, I’ve had it running for a few months.
I actually switched to Tronas for a variety of reasons. I have a video on it, but I didn't really have any issues with it. If you don't like the operating system,
You can install a third-party NAS operating system, like I did with TRAS. If you're looking to switch operating systems to hardware, it gives you a lot more flexibility.
The UGR device is better than the Synology we've seen in every way. The operating system difference, though. If you're not interested in switching operating systems,
DSM is still the pre-built NAS operating system. However, if you're hardware for the hardware's sake, this is the one to buy. If you want a larger device, they're basically on sale, so I'll leave the links below, but I will say that you have a lot more flexibility with UG.
So, now we’re going to switch to working on the network. Now, the UniFi Dream Router 7 is generally going to be one of the best starter routers you can buy to get into the UniFi ecosystem.
They’re releasing a bunch of products, and this thing will do just about everything. So, with that, you get the UniFi network, which allows you to configure everything you need, from VLANs to firewall rules.
You can run this thing as a fully-fledged NVR. The truth is, there used to be a wide range of devices in this category.
Synology HiRouters. A lot of people like TP-Link, but for other reasons, at the moment, it’s now one of the most recommended options.
Because the operating system has evolved to a point where it’s very beginner-friendly, but also very stable and reliable. So, there are a lot of devices on sale right now for Black Friday on the UniFi side,
And you can get them all, but out of all of them, this is the best one. Now, if you’re going the UniFi route, I would suggest just buying all the UniFi switches.
But if you’re not convinced, this is a great price for a 2 and 1/2 gig switch. Everything usually switches to 2 and 1/2 gig. Even that Synology device I just showed you,
The 925 Plus, which used to be the infamous 1 gig, now comes with two 2 and 1/2 gig nicks. Everything you buy, for the most part, from this point forward,
is going to have a 2 and 1/2 gig nick. This is where the industry is heading because, for the most part, all older homes are wired with Cat 5e cable.
And Cat 5e handles 2 and 1/2 perfectly. When you get to 10 Gbps, you really have to go to Cat 6, 6A, or higher. But with two and a half gigs, you can use Cat 5e.
And that's what happens in a lot of older homes. If you don't have a 2 and 1/2 gig switch, there's going to come a point where you can take advantage of some of those increased speeds,
especially with ISP speeds now coming in at over 1gig. So, it's just a cheap switch that you can buy to increase your network speed.
And if you want to add 2 and a half Gbit network speed to a device that doesn't support it, I have one of those. It works really well.
So, we're going to switch to UPS devices. And these are the two that I'm going to recommend. They are both pure waves, which basically just means that it is the cleanest power source.
That you can use. And the main difference between them is usually the size. So, this is a 1,00 VA, and this is a 1500 VA. Now, the 1500 VA can run more devices.
Because it is larger in size. The price, however, for the 500 VA is another $70 or so. So, you really have to look at what you are going to run on the device.
If you want to run everything, go for the larger one. Now, we are going to change courses here. And the reason we are going is that the working intake, the question that I am asked.
Which laptop should I buy? And if you are asking this question, you should buy this, the MacBook Air. Now, in terms of price, you are probably not going to find anything close to this device.
If you don't like Mac OS, you should probably buy this device. I bought an M1MacBook Air a few years ago, and I'll never buy another laptop device.
You can find Windows devices at this price. You can find Windows devices for less than this price. They won't last as long. They won't have the battery life that this one has,
And they won't have the performance that this one has. Unfortunately, Apple kind of has a huge hold on this market right now. And I really mean this is the low-end laptop market.
You won't be able to compare this device to anything else at this price. The only people who aren't really ready to buy a device like this are people who just don't want to use Mac OS. Again,
I've actually used Windows for over 30 years. Getting old. I forget about it sometimes. But overall, if you're looking for a laptop
And you're asking the question, which laptop should I buy? You should just buy this one. I'll just say that it doesn't come with the most storage space.
256 gigs in 2025 isn't really that much. So, unfortunately, this is where Apple really steps you up the ladder because 512 is about $200 more, which is not really a good use of money.
But if you really want more internal storage space, go with a high-end device. After that, the M4 goes to the Mac mini, which is what I'm recording right now.
Now, another thing is that I use mini PCs; I've used full-fledged desktops, and nothing compares to this thing. Depending on exactly what you want to do,
This is probably going to be the fastest device at the lowest price you’re going to find. You can literally edit video on this thing. It’s a beast.
And for the price, you really can’t beat it. Now, it’s not perfect for everything, but for very specific use cases, especially if you’re just looking to replace a desktop PC,
For the price, you’re not going to get anything better than this. So, now we’re going to move on to the miscellaneous category. This is going to be all of that. Um, the first one is going to be KVM devices.
Now, I have this specific device. It’s going to be PoE powered. So, I just plug it into my switch. It loads up, and I can manage the device remotely.
If you don’t want it to be PoE, you can buy the NonP PoE version, which is also a little cheaper, but it’s Wi-Fi, so you’ll need a power supply.
These are devices that I think everyone should have because there’s going to come a point where you’re going to have to manage a device remotely. And managing it with a full keyboard, mouse, and monitor makes it much easier to manage that way.
The next one is actually going to be a doorbell camera. Now, I’ve had the Blue Iris and this particular doorbell camera for about three or four years. The doorbell camera is great.
Blue Iris, quite honestly, I’m getting to the point where I think I’m going to switch to UniFi Protect for other reasons. I’ll have a video coming soon,
But it’s generally around AI detection. With that said, if you’re using Blue Iris frequently and you’re happy with the AI detection,
Then this doorbell camera has been great. I’ve really had no issues with it with some of the newer firmware versions. With the previous version, I had some issues, but that was years and years ago.
All of those issues have been resolved. I’m very happy with it, and for the price, it’s a great deal. Now, I have these smart plugs in a lot of places,
And one of the things I like most about them is that they have energy monitoring. So, what that allows me to do is allow me to connect them to Home Assistant.
And I can actually monitor whether a device is on or off based on its power usage. So, I have this on things like dehumidifiers so I can see if they’re running or not.
But if you know that something is on or off, you can create very powerful automations. Without energy monitoring, you can’t really tell if a device is being used.
You can keep it on or off, but you can’t tell if it’s being used. With this, you can physically see if a device is being used based on its power usage.
Now, I would never replace all of my smart plugs with this because I don’t need energy monitoring for everything, but there are certain devices that I need to know.
Whether they are on or off. And I’ve had really good luck with them, and I really like them. And I also have one of them that also offers energy monitoring.
So, if you want to monitor a few devices at once where they are in close proximity, that would work too. And here, each of these outlets can be controlled individually.
So, I really liked that too. So, this might be a better choice for you if you have a lot of devices that you want to monitor. If you don’t need it,
If you’re going to use it sparingly, don’t waste money on it. You can buy it here, the MF100, which is a little less, but it doesn't have a removable battery. These will replace compressed air forever. You’ll never have to buy another can of compressed air again. They’re powerful again. They’re great for electronics, but they’re really great for anything.
That needs compressed air. So, for electronics, these can be especially useful. So, if you don’t have one of these, I’d consider getting one.
Another item that I recently used when I went on a work trip is a travel router. Now, if I’m being honest with you, they’re kind of special. That’s what
I have, but it depends on where you’re going, especially if you have a lot of equipment. So, you only have to connect it once
And then everything else can connect to it. Depending on what you’re doing, it’s probably going to be a little more niche. But it came in handy, so I thought I’d mention it. Now, I have a website.
